Thanks for the information.
Have you seen the Bowie tribute bands in Glasgow? Spiders from Mars or Tigers on Vaseline?
I sing some Bowie songs in acoustic sets around Glasgow. Been advertising to find a bassist and drummer for a classic rock covers band. So far not much luck.
Take it easy.

hi George, Yes I've seen Bowie tribute band Tigers on Vaseline, I think they're brilliant, I've always wanted to have seen Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust days this is the nearest I'll get to the nearest best thing & well worth it. I went to see the Monsters Of Mock concert not long ago with Tigers on Vaseline, Gallus Cooper, ABDC, all tribute bands are good, its great to be able to go & see some of these tribute bands playing & not to pay such terrible prices. The pic of me with the Kiss Gene Simmons look-a-like on here is with tribute band Dressed to Kill, who come & play at the Ferry every now & again, if you like Kiss this is something for you, who not only sound, act & look like the real Kiss, which is great value for money.
I was lucky enough to have seen the real David Bowie in concert a few times over the years, I got to see him playing at Murrayfield ( Edinbugh) on his Serious moonlight tour of 83' and years later , also with his doomed rock band Tin Machine it was alright but it wasn't the Bowie we all loved.

Hey Scotscub,
Yes, I saw DB at Murrayfield as well. Then later with TM at Brixton Acadamy....not one of his more inspired ventures.
I know the guy who promotes these glam tribute acts and nights. He comes into a couple of the pubs where I go out and play acoustic with some friends.
I'm curious about why you're drawn to a German site. I use it to practise my German and because I've lived in Germany. There aren't a lot of Brits, even fewer Scots proportionately, who use the site.

Thanks a lot 69 bear for these excellent David Bowie cover versions here, I love them all, the Atsushi Sakurai version of Space Oddity its great superb & beautifully sung.
The Apolcalyptica feat Till Lindemann version of German version of Heroes just blew me away, I have a cd of them playing Metallica songs using cellos which I like very much.
Thanks again 69 bear for adding these great videos to this forum here for others to enjoy.
It also gave me the idea to look for other David Bowie songs covered by other artists/bands, so i'll see what I can come up with.

More about David Bowie.

DAVID BOWIE: In his own words

On early influences:
"The first person I ever really listened to was Acker Bilk. There was a boom in trad jazz and Acker Bilk led it. I was playing tenor sax at that tim. I played in a modern jazz group, and also played in rock bands - intermixtures of anything that required a saxophone except dance music. I played extreme music - it was either rock or jazz."

On his first job as an advertising artist
"It was diabolical. I never realised that to be an artist meant buckling under so much."

On mime and ballet
"I met Lindsay Kemp, who was a mime in London. He was holding a one-man show and he played one of the records I'd made during the break as mood music. He said would I write some more music for his things, and I said, 'If you teach me mime.' He took me on as a pupil,
and I started taking ballet and mime, and eventually I got into the company."

On his breakthrough
"With the popularity of Space Oddity I started getting the wrong kind of gigs. I was getting ballrooms and things - everything that goes with chart success. The intimacy was lost completely."

On how the USA changed him
"From England America merely symbolizes something, it doesn't actually exist. When you get off the plane and there actually is a country called America, it becomes very important. I haven't enjoyed myself so much for years."

I must admit I do like some of David Bowie's early stuff, I used to love playing the Laughing Gnome to my young niece when she was at a very early age, she's sing & dance along with that.
It's amazing to think David Bowie has had such a long singing career long before Ziggy Stardust was created.
